The brand name of the John Compton Organ Company, started in Nottingham and later flourished in West London between 1919 and 1964.

The Compton Organ Company built 261 theatre organs which were installed in theatres, town halls, and studios throughout the UK and overseas.

Their instruments were particularly noted for their remarkable mastery of the extension principle and advanced use of contemporary technology, including early electronic tone production.

Very few theatre organs now remain in their original locations, although the hard work of a correspondingly few dedicated preservationists enables a few more to remain recognisable as the instruments they once were.
