One of the most successful imitative reeds stop on an organ.

Construction:
Metal, cylindrical half-length resonators with regulating slide at the top.

Tonality:
Imitative of its orchestral counterpart.
Good examples may reproduce the 'start' and 'stop' of the note.

The only stop in the organ which comes nearest in fidelity to sounding exactly like the orchestral instrument of the same name. It can be reinforced (or ”loudened") by the judicious addition of one or more complementary stops without losing its intrinsic character. The limits of this artificial elaboration are largely governed by the acoustics of the theatre.
