A special category of piston which can affect all stops on the organ. Originally, only found on the largest instruments.

Modern combination action technology which incorporates 'settable range' makes it possible to designate exactly which stops any piston can operate - a tremendous help on a unit organ. Settable range means that any piston can be a 'general'.
