The longest and shortest octaves of pipes may, for space reasons, be carried on separate windchests, known as off-set or off-note chests. The designs of these may be exact copies of manual chests (especially for top octaves where the pipes are small) but for bass chests, the dimensions and designs reflect the much larger nature of the pipes.
